Just
to be honest, I love a good selfie. Something about getting the perfect or
almost perfect picture of yourself feels empowering. It makes you feel good to
post it for everyone to see. However, lately, I have been thinking what if we
took a selfie of what’s on the inside of us. How would it look? Would it be
full of uplifting and kind words? Or would it be full of hateful gossip and
actions? I know it is fun to take selfies. Trust me, if you went through my
camera roll you would see a bunch of them but what is so much more important is
what is on the inside. Our hearts are what impacts people, not our looks. Jesus
didn’t put us on this earth to look good. He put us here to change lives and
win people over for His kingdom. I started thinking of people from the Bible who
had the best heart selfies. I think of Ruth putting aside her life to move and
live with Naomi. I think of Mary giving up her young life to give birth to our
Savior. I think of Esther pleading to the king for the lives of the Jewish
people. I am sure I am not the only person who wants to have a heart like these
women. They would have given up anything to pursue the life God had intended
for them. They all had the perfect heart selfie. So next time you take a selfie,
remember to take a heart selfie and think about if your heart is pleasing to
God.
