I was looking through
Pinterest the other day and I came across this pin. “Apparently I can’t have
everything my way? Weird.” As soon as I
read it I sent the pin to one of my friends. I knew she would share the same
feelings about it as I did. I literally started laughing when I read this pin,
because it was so me. I have a tendency to want to control every aspect of my
life. Relationships, friendships, school, you name it and I feel like I need to
have some sort of control. Recently, I
have been praying for God to work on me. I have been asking him to help me to
relinquish all the control in my life to Him. I will admit it is really hard,
especially when you have no clue what God is going to do. I am a planner by
nature. I like to know how, when, why things have to happen, but God, He
doesn’t work off my schedule. I think sometimes we all try to hard to control
the things in our lives, because we are afraid that if we give God full control
that He will take away things we love. In the book Waiting for Wonder, the author Marlo Schalesky talks about things
having to die in our lives for us to move forward. This is such a scary
process. “God, do I really have to give up things I love to move forward in my
walk with you?” The answer is YES! The book talks about the story of Sarah from
the Bible and how she waited so long for God to give her a son. In Sarah and
her husband, Abraham’s lives, the death of Abraham’s father is what had to
occur. Abraham’s father was not worshipping the one True God, but instead worshipping
false gods. His death had to occur for them to move on with God’s plan for
their lives. Now, I am not saying that actually people have to die in your life,
but friendships and relationships might.
I know this is really hard, especially if it is someone you love.
Recently, I had to give up a relationship with someone I deeply cared about
because we both needed to move forward with God’s plans for our lives. That
doesn’t mean it was easy or I even wanted to do it, but God wants to cleanse us
and make us completely His. This means giving Him complete control. Today, I
encourage you, whatever you may be holding onto that is holding you back from
doing God’s will, release it. God’s got this!
P.S. Take a minute to listen to
this song by Francesca Battistelli. Remember let go and watch the giants
fall.
