Stressed?

Raise your hand if you have ever felt stressed.  I have both of my hands waving in the air. Stress is something we all face. Some of us are better at handling stress than others. I wish I could say I was one of those people. However, instead I usually cry for a good ten minutes, then pull myself together to conquer whatever I may be facing that day. I have learned over the past couple of years that stress is going to happen but how we react to it is the game changer. I think about people from the Bible. I bet David was stressed when he had to face Goliath. I bet Daniel was stressed when he went in the lion’s den. I bet Job was stressed when he lost his wife, children, and home. All these people were human just like you and me. I know they had to feel a little stressed when facing such trials and troubles in their lives. However, the difference for them was they realized that their God was bigger than their stress. We serve the same mighty and powerful God. Isn’t that amazing? Now, I don’t know about you but my stress isn’t because I am being thrown in a den full of hungry lions. My stress is I have two tests and a project due this week. Everyone’s stress is different but we all serve the same God. He can take all that stress and anxiety away with just prayer. I believe that God places important people in your lives in every different stressful situation to help you get through it. This semester, I, along with some of the best girls I have ever met, are starting the Teaching Education Program at school. Three full semesters of endless readings, assignments, and fieldwork. I wholeheartedly believe that God placed us there to go through it together, to lift each other up, and to encourage each other through the stress. So today, if you are feeling overwhelmed by the stress in your life, take a step back, take a deep breath, and remember we serve a mighty God who can take all your stress away if you will let Him.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
